Bank of Russia Rules Out Using Cryptocurrency for Domestic Payments and Investments

The Bank of Russia continues to adhere to a strict position regarding cryptocurrencies, excluding their use for domestic payments in the country.

The head of the Central Bank, Elvira Nabiullina, stated that cryptocurrencies should not be used as a means of payment in Russia.

The Central Bank is not considering the possibility of investing in cryptocurrencies, considering them too volatile and unreliable from the point of view of preserving value.

At the same time, the Bank of Russia supports projects related to the use of cryptocurrency for international payments. The regulator continues to promote such initiatives.

Nabiullina clarified that settlements in cryptocurrency within the country cannot be allowed, as this may create risks for economic stability.
