Starting April 1, a new function will appear on the Gosuslugi portal: users will be able to find out which SIM cards are registered in their name with telecom operators. This was announced by the head of the Ministry of Digital Development, Maksut Shadayev.
We are launching a service on Gosuslugi. Every citizen will be able to see all the contracts registered in their name.
The minister suggested that some Russians have SIM cards registered in their name that they are not aware of. These SIM cards may be used by malicious actors.
Since January 1, 2025, Russia has tightened the procedure for purchasing SIM cards from Russian telecom operators for foreigners. This measure is designed to counter fraudulent activities and the spread of so-called "gray" SIM cards.
A new bill, developed to combat telephone fraud, will allow Russians to ban the registration of SIM cards without personal presence. This document amends the Law "On Communications" and establishes new rules that give individuals the right to limit the possibility of concluding contracts for the provision of communication services.
