In January 2025, more than 1.19 million users encountered fake web pages created to steal Telegram accounts. This is the first time the number of victims has exceeded one million in a month. This is evidenced by statistics shared in Yandex Browser.
Fraudulent pages may look like a real Telegram interface. If a user provides their phone number and one-time password to attackers, their account will be intercepted.
Yandex Browser reported that the number of warnings about potentially dangerous links to account theft pages at the beginning of this year reached more than 1.19 million. This is 20% more than in December 2024 and 58% more compared to November 2024.
According to Browser, scammers use various tactics. For example, they pose as clairvoyants to extract victims' personal data in fake messengers.
