«Smart» cycling jersey for athletes created at SamSMU

Innovative clothing will help cyclists improve training efficiency

Specialists from Samara State Medical University (SamSMU) have created a cycling jersey equipped with eight EMG sensors. The "smart" clothing tracks muscle tension in the legs and other muscle groups. Gyroscopes are built into the jersey, with their help specialists can determine the position of the cyclist's body and its movements.

Testing of "smart" clothing was carried out on athletes of various levels and in various conditions — on stationary trainers, velodromes, as well as on highways and in the mountains. The equipment proved to be reliable and effective in all weather conditions. With its help, it was possible to identify shortcomings in the technique of cyclists and correct them.

The "smart" cycling jersey has become part of a line of diagnostic devices developed by the NTI Competence Center "Bionic Engineering in Medicine" based at SamSMU.
