Хакеры атакуют: уровень нелегитимного трафика веб-серверов в России вырос до 12%

Rented servers are becoming the main tools for DDoS attacks

Russia is experiencing a significant increase in the level of illegitimate traffic on web servers, which already accounts for 12% of the total number of requests. Moreover, more than half of this traffic is due to the activity of botnets — networks of infected devices used for large-scale cyberattacks.

The use of infected virtual servers by hackers to carry out powerful DDoS attacks and spread ransomware has attracted particular attention of specialists. Attackers rent the capacity of hosting providers, hiding their location and bypassing blocking. In some cases, hackers use promotional offers from hosting providers to launch attacks at no additional cost.

Experts note that providers face serious difficulties in protecting rented servers. For example, they cannot update software without the client's consent. It is also difficult to accurately determine the nature of attacks originating from rented virtual machines.

Experts emphasize that the use of virtual servers allows attackers to hide their location and bypass geographical blocking, which significantly increases the threat of cyberattacks.
