MAI Finds a Way to Increase the Power and Longevity of Batteries for Transport

The modification will improve the quality of impregnation of the materials used with electrolyte

Scientists at the Moscow Aviation Institute (MAI) have developed a new method for producing lithium iron phosphate batteries, increasing their power and longevity.

According to the developed method, copper or aluminum foil is first treated with plasma in an argon environment and bombarded with ions, which improves the adhesive properties of the surface. Then, a special composition of electrode material is applied to it, which is dried and pressed.

This treatment improves electrolyte impregnation, which leads to an increase in the specific energy intensity of batteries by approximately 15%. Currently, the method is undergoing testing, and in the future, it may be widely implemented in the Russian production of lithium iron phosphate batteries.

These batteries are suitable for a wide range of applications — from electric vehicles to household appliances and children's toys.
