When arrival is not scary: drone delivery of products is being organized in Russia

The "Samokat" service promises that orders will reach parcel lockers in half an hour

The "Samokat" product delivery service plans to start testing delivery using drones in the Samara region in the first quarter of 2025.

Flights will be carried out within the framework of an experimental legal regime (EPR) over limited distances. Drones will deliver orders to parcel lockers located in several districts of Tolyatti within 30 minutes. The service user will receive notifications after delivery is completed.

Samokat said that at the first stage of testing the service, the maximum storage time for an order in the parcel locker will be three hours.

Iosif Nurgaliev, CEO of the "Network of Free Cooperation", believes that the delivery market is overheated, especially in terms of courier salaries. He believes that growth cannot continue indefinitely. Within 5–10 years, the courier profession may be completely replaced by robots and drones, Nurgaliev said. "Samokat" is taking a step into the future by testing innovative delivery methods. This could change the market and improve the efficiency of the service.
