Scammers Call Russians Under the Pretense of Updating Their "Gosuslugi" Account: How to Tell if the Person on the Other End of the Line is a Fraudster

The ultimate goal of the attackers is to obtain an SMS code needed to restore access to the account

Updating your account on "Gosuslugi" is another trick of scammers. Attackers call Russians and claim that it is necessary to update the training record for security reasons, but in reality, this is a deception. The Department for Combating Illegal Use of Information and Communication Technologies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation emphasized that "Gosuslugi" does not call users.

This is technically impossible, since, according to the official announcement, the portal is currently used by more than 110 million people. Accordingly, in order to call all users in a month, a colossal team of operators is needed (almost 7.5 thousand people!), which is economically and organizationally unrealistic.

To receive official notifications on "Gosuslugi", you need to log in to your personal account. Information mailings from the portal come from the following addresses:

Email no-reply@gosuslugi.ru or no-reply@pos.gosuslugi.ru;

SMS — short address gosuslugi.

Be vigilant! If they are trying to convince you that your account "needs to be updated urgently" - this is 100% fraud.

All calls about "updating your Gosuslugi account" are a scam. Most often, scammers want to get an SMS code in order to then restore access to the victim's account.

Earlier, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia revealed two fraudulent schemes that criminals use to access citizens' personal accounts on the "Gosuslugi" portal and steal money. One of them is when scammers call and introduce themselves as telecom operators. They ask you to name the code from the SMS, supposedly to extend the contract for the number. In fact, this code is needed to access your personal account on "Gosuslugi".
