Crews of Russian Su-25SM bombers need to abandon the archaic and dangerous tactics of firing at enemy front-line fortifications with 80-mm S-8KOM rockets from a climb. Thanks to this, the combat vehicle will leave the range of man-portable air defense systems (MANPADS) "Igla", Piorun and Stinger, said military analyst Yevgeny Damantsev.
A much more appropriate solution would be the software and hardware integration of Kh-39 LMUR multi-purpose tactical missiles or UPAB-50S planning guided aerial bombs into the Su-25SM3 ammunition, which can be launched at enemy positions from much greater distances.
In addition, it is necessary to equip the Vitebsk-25 on-board defense systems (BKO) not only with tail ultraviolet sensors of the attacking missile detection system and IR trap units, but also with infrared-ultraviolet modules of optical-electronic countermeasures based on SP3-1500 generators to suppress the IR/UV GSN of enemy SAMs, the analyst added.
