The use of the PD-35 engine being developed in Russia, originally created for passenger wide-body aircraft, is planned to be expanded for the energy sector and transport aircraft. This was announced by Dmitry Markovich, Director of the Institute of Thermophysics of the SB RAS.
This is a gas generator that can be implemented in other industries, and we, like a number of other institutes of the SB RAS, are involved in this work. Now it is being developed for other areas, for transport aviation, not for passenger transportation.
Markovich noted that the PD-35 engine line has energy applications. According to him, it is possible to realize the potential of the power unit in industrial production within five years.
The PD-35 project was launched in 2016 at the Rybinsk "Saturn" and Perm "Aviadvigatel", which are part of the United Engine Corporation (ODK). The PD-35, which features increased thrust up to 35 tons (16 tons more than the PD-14), will become the most powerful Russian aircraft engine.
Earlier www1.ru reported that a sample of the PD-35 aircraft engine passed the first stage of testing.
