The Bank of Russia has recorded an increase in the spread of fakes about the digital ruble in messengers and social networks. Attackers urge people to avoid using this type of money and write refusals, attaching fake statements to posts that need to be filled out.
The main channel for spreading disinformation has become mailings. Their authors are trying to cause panic, referring to excerpts from laws and regulations taken out of context. Experts suggest that messages about the digital ruble may be related to fraudulent schemes aimed at creating panic and disinformation among the population.
The Central Bank recalled that the digital ruble will exist along with cash and non-cash funds. The decision to use it will remain with the citizens.
Some Russians, succumbing to panic, began to apply to multifunctional centers (MFCs) with statements of refusal from the digital ruble. However, such a procedure does not exist, since it is possible to use this form of money only on a voluntary basis.
The Central Bank also denied rumors about a forced transition to digital rubles and plans to abandon cash.
What is the digital ruble?
The digital ruble is a new form of money. It will exist along with cash and non-cash money. It is planned to be launched for everyone from July 1, 2025. All three types of money (cash, non-cash and digital ruble) will be equal. They can be exchanged for each other at a rate of one to one.
Digital rubles will be issued by the Bank of Russia. These are digital codes that will be stored on special digital wallets on the Central Bank platform.
