The former Nissan plant (Saint Petersburg Automobile Plant) is in a difficult situation. Xcite crossovers have accumulated in warehouses. The finished product site for 10,000 cars is almost completely full. This is reported by automotive journalists.
The situation is complicated by the fact that dealers also have Xcite cars in stock. The demand for models is very low. For example, a dealer in Tolyatti did not sell a single all-wheel drive Xcite X-cross 8, although sales of crossovers started in November.
Future deliveries from Chery may amount to only 5-10 thousand vehicle sets, a source at the plant told reporters. Thus, the story with the production of Xcite (renamed Chery Tiggo) can be considered complete, journalists believe.
Meanwhile, the company is preparing to modernize the equipment. The work is scheduled for August this year. The fact is that in the spring of 2026, the plant will start assembling Lada Iskra in sedan and station wagon bodies.
