The Krasnoye Sormovo plant is building three cruise ships of Project 00840 "Karelia" for the Vodohod company. The work is being carried out with the support of the Russian government.
These modern "river-sea" class vessels are designed for 183 passengers. They will be able to travel on the Black, Azov, Caspian and White Seas, as well as the Gulf of Finland. The first ship of the "Karelia" project will be launched in 2025.
The liners are equipped with full-rotation rudder propellers for high maneuverability, automated control systems and amenities comparable to five-star hotels. A draft of less than three meters will allow them to enter even shallow rivers.
Shipbuilders hope that the project will be continued, given the growing demand for river cruises.
