Engine and gearbox - from the T-64 tank: amazing technical details of the unique KrAZ-5450 racing truck from the 90s

Accelerated to a maximum of 200 km/h

In the 90s of the last century, a unique KrAZ-5450 semi-trailer truck, existing in a single copy, participated in circuit racing at the European Truck Championship. The publication "Behind the Wheel" told about the technical features of the car.

The car, painted in bright green, quickly acquired the nickname "crocodile". The 5TD engine from the T-64 tank was boosted to 1000 hp, and the 7-speed planetary mechanics were taken from the same tank. The gearbox lever was also left as a tank lever. All suspensions are torsion bar, independent. Fenders and hood are made of fiberglass.

Weight - approximately 7 tons, acceleration to 100 km - in 12 seconds, maximum speed - about 200 km/h. The KrAZ semi-trailer truck with a "5450" plate attached to it from the 90s existed in a single copy.

Unfortunately, the "crocodile" did not make it to the champions: during its only race in 1992, it twisted the shaft of the central gearbox of the main transmission. And the country was no longer interested in circuit racing.
