Russia has begun developing a new aircraft design - a helicopter capable of transforming into an airplane. This was announced by the scientific director of the Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Sergei Chernyshev.
According to him, the device is equipped with a rotor, which in certain flight modes is fixed and simply becomes a wing.
At the same time, the pushing engines continue to work, and the aircraft flies like an airplane. That is, the machine combines the advantages of vertical take-off, like helicopters, and the high speed of horizontal movement, which is provided by the aircraft layout.
Scientists have already patented the development, but after confirming the operability of the idea, specialists have a long way to go to create working technologies.
