Russian engineers have increased the equivalent resistance of the upper frontal detail (VLD) of the hull of the T-90M "Proryv" main battle tank, as well as the upper sectors of the frontal armor plates of the turret, against tandem cumulative warheads. This was reported by military expert Evgeny Damantsev.
Specialists from one of the repair battalions placed additional tiers of 4S20 "Kontakt-1" elements above the 4S23 "Relikt" dynamic protection elements on the turret armor plates.
"Kontakt-1" neutralizes the effect of the leading cumulative charge. Thus, the main armor dimension of the frontal projection of the hull and partially the turret is not damaged even if missiles such as the BGM-71F hit. The equivalent resistance against HEAT increased to 1400-1450 mm in the VLD sector and up to 1600 mm in the upper sector of the frontal turret plates.
