9M723F3 ballistic missiles for the Iskander-M operational-tactical missile system (OTRK) have received a new high-explosive penetrating warhead. This was reported by the Telegram channel "Military Informant".
The penetrating warhead of the missile is designed to destroy buried or highly protected objects.
Similar warheads were previously installed on aeroballistic missiles of the Kinzhal aviation complex. The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation has not officially confirmed this information.
The Iskander-M is used to destroy enemy air defense systems, as well as other important objects at a maximum range of up to 500 km.
The system has been in service with the Russian army since 2014, and the complete rearmament of missile forces and artillery units with this complex was completed at the end of 2019.
