Artem Podgorny, director of the Krasnodar chemical production, spoke about a new technology for cleaning sand from fuel oil, developed to eliminate the consequences of oil spills in the Black Sea.
The technology makes the sand cleaner than it was before the contamination. An examination showed that one kilogram of purified sand contains only 35 milligrams of oil products, which is 30 times lower than the permissible values.
The director of the Krasnodar chemical production stated that the cleaning process is extremely simple. Fuel oil sand is mixed with the agent in a ratio of 5:1 and mixed thoroughly. After that, the mixture should settle: the sand settles to the bottom, and the agent along with oil products floats to the surface. Then the sand is washed with ordinary water.
According to Podgorny, the solution is highly environmentally friendly and decomposes in two months under the influence of sunlight.
The examination confirmed the effectiveness: the content of oil products in the purified sand turned out to be almost 30 times lower than the norm — only 35 milligrams per kilogram with an allowable 1000 milligrams.
He expressed confidence that with proper support, it would be possible to scale up the process and completely solve the problem of contaminated sand on beaches.
Earlier www1.ru reported that scientists from KubSTU have developed an innovative way to clean sand from oil products.
