An installation for growing artificial blood vessels has been developed at the Novosibirsk State Technical University NETI (NSTU NETI). This was reported by the press service of the university.
The high-voltage installation (15—20 kV) operates on the basis of a collector in the form of a cylinder with specially shaped teeth, onto which conductive threads are wound.
A polymer is used to make vessels, which is dosed in a field with high electrical voltage. This method has proven practical effectiveness, resulting in prototypes of vessels with the required diameter from 0.7 to three centimeters - optimal for surgical interventions.
Specialists used biocompatible nanofibers in the manufacture of blood vessels. This approach promotes rapid healing after their implantation and reduces the duration of the operation.
The electroforming method allows the production of vascular prostheses from most plastics - from those that completely decompose in the body to those that never change.
The new method of manufacturing vessels is simpler and cheaper than others.
