The physical start-up of a nuclear reactor was carried out on the heavy nuclear-powered missile cruiser "Admiral Nakhimov" of Project 11442M without going to sea, and the ship's degaussing operation was completed.
The physical start-up of the reactor does not mean the completion of the cruiser's modernization and repair, but indicates readiness for the functioning of a nuclear power plant with maximum power.
The cruiser "Admiral Nakhimov" has been under repair since 1999. The main result of the cruiser's modernization will be an increase in strike power. It is expected to carry Onyx or Kalibr-NK cruise missiles, as well as hypersonic Zircon missiles.
The head of the Sevmash enterprise, Mikhail Budnichenko, stated that new technological and innovative solutions were being introduced in the process of modernizing the "Admiral Nakhimov". On all issues, there was constant interaction between the Navy command and Sevmash and USC.
