Unique cosmic spectacle — the conjunction of the Moon and Saturn shown from the ISS

Cosmonaut Ivan Vagner captured a rare phenomenon that will only happen again in 2031

Roscosmos cosmonaut Ivan Vagner shared an impressive shot of the rare conjunction of the Moon and Saturn. This astronomical phenomenon will only happen again in 2031.

Vagner noted that the International Space Station (ISS) offers truly cosmic views, and it is important to know when and how to observe them. On January 4, around 21:00 Moscow time, the Moon and Saturn approached each other in the starry sky, or rather, Saturn was covered by the Moon. The cosmonaut emphasized that this is an incredibly exciting and rare event.

He also added that he could not miss the opportunity to capture this phenomenon.

I tried to combine the Moon and Saturn in one frame, and I succeeded! I used a lens with a focal length of 1600 mm — this is the maximum we can afford here.
