Scientists have found a way to "compress" information about the state of the wireless communication channel, which is transmitted over Wi-Fi networks from connected devices to the access point. The algorithm, which allows reducing the amount of information by 50%, significantly improves the speed and quality of modern Wi-Fi networks.
Modern Wi-Fi networks use MIMO technology, which allows data transmission between devices with multiple antennas. However, for this technology to work correctly, devices must periodically exchange information about the state of the wireless channel, including data about environmental conditions affecting the signal. These messages can take up a significant amount of space and reduce network performance.
The data compression method created by Russian scientists is based on transmitting the differences between channel state measurements, rather than transmitting the measurements themselves. This approach allows additional data compression using simple coding algorithms.
Experiments have shown that the new technology reduces the amount of information about the state of the communication channel by half without loss of quality.
In addition to its high efficiency, the new algorithm is also easy to integrate into standard Wi-Fi networks and devices. This makes it an attractive solution for multi-user networks where fast transmission of large amounts of data is required.
