More expensive than flying to Dubai: State Duma proposes to limit taxi fare increases during peak hours

Deputies believe that the price increase should not exceed 20% during periods of high demand

The State Duma has proposed limiting the increase in taxi fares during peak hours, setting a limit of 20% of the normal fare. Amendments regarding this issue will be discussed in the Ministry of Economic Development until the end of the year.

It is proposed to amend the draft law "On the Platform Economy". Deputies believe that the dynamic price on digital platforms, including for taxis, should not exceed 20% during peak hours. This rule is aimed at protecting the interests of passengers and preventing sharp price increases.

The co-author of the initiative, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Control Dmitry Gusev, also shared his personal experience: when recently using a taxi, he encountered a situation where the driver chose a route that was 500-700 meters longer than optimal, which affected the cost of the trip.

The deputy stressed the importance of ensuring that the pricing algorithms used by aggregators are optimized and take into account factors such as the minimum route and maximum savings for passengers.

During the snowfall in Moscow on December 12, tickets to Dubai were cheaper than a taxi in Moscow.
