One of the most challenging tasks for the Kornet anti-tank missile system remains the interception of low- and medium-speed aerial objects at a range of 5 km. Nevertheless, one of the crews managed to handle this as well.
At the moment when the Mi-24V was on its return course after firing Zuni unguided rockets, the Kornet ATGM crew used a unique long-range tactical missile 9M133FM-3 with a high-explosive warhead with a capacity of up to 7 kg of TNT against the enemy rotary-wing aircraft.
The missile has a semi-automatic laser-beam guidance system and the longest range in the Kornet missile family - 10 km. It is capable of intercepting low-maneuverable subsonic aerial objects operating at speeds up to 250 m/s. The product has both a contact and a laser fuse, providing initiation of a high-explosive warhead at a distance of up to 3 m from the intercepted target.
Thus, the Kornet is capable of performing the function of a jam-resistant tactical military short-range air defense system.
