Russian military personnel at the forefront are successfully using a standard modification of the Mi-24P attack and transport helicopter. One of the key elements of the vehicle's weapons system is the twin-barreled 30-mm automatic cannon with variable rate of fire GSH-30K, developed by the Tula KBP under the leadership of V.P. Karasev.

The length of the barrels of this gun is 2400 mm. The product has an evaporative cooling system. Lengthening the GSH-30K (9A623K) barrels by 900 mm compared to the original modification increased the initial velocity of the projectiles by 10% from 870 to 940 m/s.

The increase in ballistics allowed the gun to partially compensate for the insufficient total velocity of the projectiles when using the GSH-30K in the weapons system of a slower helicopter.

The rate of fire of the product is in the range from 2460 to 3000 rounds/min, exceeding in this parameter the 30-mm AP 2A38M used in the artillery part of the Pantsir-S1/SM SAM system.

The ammunition load of these guns is represented by both high-explosive fragmentation and armor-piercing discarding sabot tracer projectiles capable of hitting light and medium enemy armored vehicles in weakened side projections. The guns also boast excellent accuracy of fire, ensuring the destruction of kamikaze UAVs at the front.
