Russian software developers have begun receiving notifications from Google Play about the termination of cooperation with them "for an indefinite period." Representatives of the IT community who received such letters shared them on the specialized resource "Habr."
From December 26, 2024, the mobile application, game, book, and magazine marketplace will cease making payments to developers whose bank accounts are located in Russia. The last payments will be made on January 15, 2025.
In addition, from December 26, 2024, Google Play users will no longer be able to purchase Russian applications or paid subscriptions from Russian developers with bank accounts in Russia. Any such request will be rejected.
Earlier, after the tightening of anti-Russian sanctions in 2022, Google Play had already removed "Gosuslugi" and other Russian applications with millions of users without explanation.
