Vladimir Solovyov, General Designer of the Russian Orbital Station (ROS), announced that the first scientific and energy module (NEM) has already been created in metal. He noted that electrical tests of this module will begin in a year. He said this at the general meeting of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), emphasizing that preparations for the tests are proceeding according to plan.
The development of the ROS continues in accordance with the approved schedule. The deployment of the station in a near-polar orbit is scheduled for the period from 2027 to 2033. The project cost will be 608.9 billion rubles, of which 150 billion will be spent in the first three years. The first launch of the NEM into orbit is planned for the end of 2027, and by 2030, universal nodal, gateway and basic modules will also be launched, which will form the core of the station.
At the second stage, from 2031 to 2033, the ROS will be expanded by docking two target modules. The ROS project will ensure the continuation of the Russian manned program after leaving the ISS and will solve problems that cannot be solved within the ISS due to technological limitations and international agreements. The project is also open for international cooperation, and African and BRICS countries are invited to participate in its implementation.
