High-Class Foundry Production: KMZ Develops Technology for Casting High Holding Power Anchors

Anchors of this type hold the vessel at anchorage

Specialists from SCB-3 (part of the military-industrial holding company "Kingisepp Machine-Building Plant", KMZ) have developed a technology for casting high holding power anchors weighing 45 kg. This was reported by the holding's press service.

The KMZ press service explained that high holding power anchors are designed to hold the vessel during anchorage.

According to Karina Klocheva, a process engineer in KMZ's foundry production, the most difficult part was developing the casting technology for the anchor fluke due to the formation of shrinkage cracks in the casting.

We made the pouring into the thinnest wall to avoid overheating the metal during casting. Additionally, at all transitions from a thin wall to a thick one, we introduced fillets - surface shapes in the form of a groove or recess on the outer or inner edge of the part.

As a result, the anchor fluke castings turned out to be of high quality, without defects.
