The latest guided American AMRAAM missiles in the AIM-120C-7 and AIM-120D modifications may appear on the front. Due to them, the degree of threat to the tactical aviation of the Russian Aerospace Forces will increase, noted military expert Evgeny Damantsev.
According to him, these air-to-air missiles can be integrated into the fire control systems of the MiG-29A and Su-27, or introduced into the ammunition of the supplied Danish, Dutch, and Norwegian F-16A/B Block 20.
The active-passive radar homing heads of these missiles are capable of functioning in the homing mode on sources of interference from airborne electronic warfare systems, including "Khibiny". In this mode, the AIM-120D missile's ARGSN can capture an electronic warfare source at a distance of 150 - 180 km and perform guidance based on the spatial coordinates of the REP radiation source.
After the appearance of these air-to-air missiles in the ammunition load of the tactical aviation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the priority will be the interception of enemy aircraft by R-37M ultra-long-range air-to-air missiles with an effective range of up to 250 km.
The R-37M is a long-range air-to-air missile system designed to engage both ground and air targets. The altitude of engagement is from 30 m to 25 km, the maximum missile speed is six times the speed of sound, that is, it is actually hypersonic. Its carriers can be MiG-31BM, Su-35S, and Su-57 fighters.
