The Don State Technical University (DSTU) has modified concrete using nano-diamonds, according to the university's press service.
Adding a solution of nano-diamonds to the concrete mix, up to one percent of the cement mass, can significantly improve the strength properties of the concrete and accelerate the hardening process. The best results were achieved with a dosage of 0.4 percent.
The compressive and flexural strength of the concrete increased by more than 28% after two days and more than 15% after 28 days. This discovery has high practical significance for the construction industry.
Using nano-diamonds in certain proportions can reduce the consumption of expensive components, such as cement and high-quality aggregates. Their introduction into mass production of concrete will save up to 15% per cubic meter of concrete mix.
