Kazakhstan has not yet chosen a contractor for the construction of the first nuclear power plant. However, the country's authorities announced their intention to discuss the participation of the Rosatom State Corporation in the project during the visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Astana on November 27. This was stated by the Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan, Almasadam Satkaliyev.
According to Almasadam Satkaliyev, a government commission has been created in Kazakhstan to select a company for the construction of the nuclear power plant.
If this issue is raised by the Russian side, we are ready to discuss it.
It is worth noting that on October 6 of this year, Kazakhstan held a referendum on the construction of the first nuclear power plant. The implementation of the project was supported by 71% of citizens. Previously, the country's authorities reported that they would choose a contractor based on economic, technological, and environmental feasibility.
The construction cost may reach $10-12 billion. The list of potential contractors includes the Chinese company CNNC, the Russian State Corporation Rosatom, the French EDF, and the South Korean KHNP. The final decision on cooperation will be made in 2025.
