«Сбер» предложил бороться с дропперами с помощью введения нормативов для банков

The introduction of mandatory standards and criminal liability will help reduce the number of droppers, Sber believes

At the inter-industry conference "Customer Safety First," Sergey Veligodsky, Director of the Fraud Prevention Department at Sberbank, proposed introducing a mandatory standard for the proportion of drops among bank clients. In his opinion, this will help credit organizations more actively combat dropping — the transfer of bank cards or access to them to fraudsters for withdrawing stolen funds.

Thanks to the "Anti-Drop" strategy, Sberbank has already reduced the number of droppers using its cards by almost five times. "Our cards are becoming less and less profitable to use for fraudulent schemes," Veligodsky emphasized. However, he noted that the problem has shifted to other banks where countering dropping is less effective. The introduction of a standard, according to the expert, will force all credit organizations to pay more attention to this problem.

Veligodsky cited the example of Belarus, where criminal liability for dropping has been introduced with penalties ranging from fines to 10 years of imprisonment. This, he said, has almost completely eliminated the problem. In Russia, a similar bill has already been sent to the government, and the Central Bank and law enforcement agencies emphasize the need to strengthen responsibility for dropping.

Earlier, Stanislav Kuznetsov, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Sberbank, reported that thanks to interaction with courts, law enforcement agencies and other banks, Sber returned more than 1 billion rubles to Russians. However, he pointed to a disturbing trend: most droppers are young people under 24 who are attracted by easy money.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, there may be up to 2 million droppers in Russia. The head of the Central Bank, Elvira Nabiullina, also stated the need to tighten measures to combat this phenomenon.
