Российская «НМ-Тех» займется локализацией производства чипов для карт и документов

The Ministry of Industry and Trade has mandated that banking cards, SIM cards, and other components be produced in Russia starting in 2026

The Zelenograd-based enterprise "NM-Tech" is launching several new projects in 2025 to produce chips for various types of cards and electronic documents, including SIM cards, electronic signature tokens, banking and transport cards, as well as international passports. The total profit from the sale of products is expected to exceed 3 trillion rubles by 2030.

The projects include the production of microchips for:

  • USB tokens with electronic signature support — mass production is scheduled to begin in 2030.
  • UHF tags — microchips for transport and other cards with implementation in 2027.
  • U-chip microchips for international passports — launch is planned for 2029.
  • Protected microchips for SIM cards and M2M chips for the Internet of Things (IoT) — launch in 2028.

The total investment in these projects will be about 17.5 billion rubles. All products will have an export potential of $1.5 million. However, "NM-Tech" clarified that the assessment of investments and forecasts are premature at the moment, as the projects are at an initial stage.

The company was registered in 2019, and in 2023 its revenue amounted to 231 million rubles with a net loss of 3.3 billion rubles. In 2024, it registered two patents for the topology of SIM card and UHF tag microchips, and also increased its authorized capital almost twofold — to 238 billion rubles.

"NM-Tech" operates within the framework of the Ministry of Industry and Trade's requirements, which mandate the localization of the production of banking cards, SIM cards, and other components in Russia from 2026. This transition is caused by sanctions imposed on the country and the need to create an independent domestic base for critical technologies.

Thus, the production at "NM-Tech" is focused on meeting the internal needs of the market, as well as creating opportunities for export, which in the future may significantly increase the company's role in the Russian microchip industry.
