Спасут от ядерного взрыва и радиации: Россия начала выпускать мобильные убежища «КУБ-М»

Each shelter is designed for 54 people, and it can protect its inhabitants for 48 hours from most direct threats to their lives

The All-Russian Research Institute for Civil Defense and Emergency Situations of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia (FGBU VNII GOChS) has launched serial production of mobile shelters "KUB-M" for the first time in Russia, capable of withstanding a nuclear explosion.

In its standard configuration, "KUB-M" consists of two modules: a room for sheltering 54 people and a technical unit. If necessary, the capacity of one protective structure can be increased to 150 people with additional modules.

"KUB-M" provides protection for 48 hours from:

  • air blast wave and light radiation from a nuclear explosion;
  • penetrating radiation and radioactive contamination of the area;
  • high-explosive and fragmentation effects of conventional weapons;
  • falling debris of building structures;
  • hazardous chemicals;
  • fires.

The "KUB-M" shelter received the following characteristics:

  • load from the action of an air blast wave of 100 kPa;
  • technical unit for life support  for 150 people;
  • partial regeneration system for internal air;
  • autonomous water supply system for 440 liters;
  • 15 kW diesel power station with a sealed vestibule and cooling chamber.

According to the developers, the main advantage of the "KUB-M" mobile shelter is its mobility. "KUB-M" can be easily transported to another location by rail or road, and connected to existing engineering systems. Such shelters can be manufactured and installed in less than three months, which is significantly more economical and faster than building similar civil defense protective structures.

The launch of serial production of shelters in the Nizhny Novgorod region is supported at the state level. According to Nikolai Posokhov, head of the research center for improving protective measures of the All-Russian Research Institute for Civil Defense and Emergency Situations, the start of serial production of the modular shelter "represents an important step towards improving the safety of citizens", and in the future, similar developments "will lead to the creation of new effective population protection systems".
