Russian Su-34NVO multirole front-line bombers at the front need to be equipped with at least a pair of air-to-air R-77-1 missiles. This point of view was expressed by military expert Evgeny Damantsev.
According to him, hypothetically, such a measure will help to effectively counter F-16AM fighters with AIM-120B/С-5/7 missiles, as well as Mirage-2000F-5 with MICA-EM/IR missiles.
All Su-34NVOs performing strike operations should, in addition to UFAB-500M-62, be equipped with at least a pair of air-to-air R-77-1 missiles.
The R-77-1 missile is designed for medium-range air combat, when opponents do not even see each other yet. With its help, you can destroy a target at a distance of up to 110 km.
With a launch weight of 190 kg, the missile carries a powerful warhead with rod striking elements. When approaching the target by several meters, a non-contact laser fuse gives the command to detonate. The resulting field of fragments leaves no chance even for large aircraft. The enemy target will be hit at altitudes up to 25 km.
Earlier www1.ru reported that the protection of Russian Tor air defense systems has also been strengthened. They received screens made of armored steel five millimeters thick, which protect the system's hull.
