Roscosmos has released approximately 300 MHz of frequencies in the 6425–7125 MHz range, which was designated by the International Telecommunication Union for 5G networks.
Anton Stepanov, head of the Roscosmos Radio Frequency Center, stated at the "Spectrum 2024" forum that the agency has moved its satellite systems from this spectrum, freeing up the 6700–6925 MHz band for mobile operators. This step is aimed at preparing for the potential launch of 5G networks, but the exact conditions for using the range have yet to be determined at meetings of the State Commission on Radio Frequencies (SCRF).
Business representatives, including telecom operators, have previously expressed interest in other frequencies for 5G, considering the 3.4–3.8 GHz range more optimal for deploying fifth-generation networks.
