Ships of the Russian Navy have begun to be equipped with a shipborne version of the Pantsir-M anti-aircraft missile and gun system. The system has a wide potential in intercepting low-signature missiles, including the Western Storm Shadow.
One combat module of the Pantsir-M SAM system with ammunition of up to 40 high-speed 57E6 anti-aircraft missiles is capable of intercepting up to 10 low-signature missiles per minute. Their capture is carried out thanks to the 1RS3 PAR radar for tracking targets at a distance of about 15 km, while the standard 1RS2 radar provided capture of such targets at a distance of about 8 km.
Also, the increased energy potential of this radar complex provides a technical reserve for re-equipping the shipborne Pantsir-M SAM systems with the latest bi-caliber 57E6M SAMs with a range of up to 40 km.
In addition, the 1RS-3 radar complex is capable of detecting targets with an effective reflecting surface at a distance of up to 70 km, bringing the anti-missile potential of the Pantsirei-M to the indicators of the ground version of the Pantsir-SM. The maximum speed of targets intercepted by the Pantsirei-M can potentially reach 2000 m/s.
