The promising Russian anti-aircraft artillery complex "Derivation-Air Defense" may be used in combat to support tanks if the ammunition of the 2A91 guns is updated. This point of view was expressed by military expert Evgeny Damantsev.
He drew attention to the fact that key elements of the armament of the heavy Swedish BMP CV9040C "Stridsfordon-90", in particular, the Bofors L70 automatic cannon and APFSDS-T Mk 1 sub-caliber projectiles with armor penetration of 120 mm at a distance of 1.5 km at an initial speed of 1480 m/s, fell into the hands of Russian engineers.
Based on these projectiles, specialists from JSC "NIMI named after V.V. Bakhirev" can begin developing domestic 57-mm APFSDS (kinetic projectiles) of a similar type in the shortest possible time to update the ammunition of the 2A91 guns of the highly automated 2S38 "Derivation-Air Defense" air defense system.
According to the analyst, in this case, the calculated armor penetration of APFSDS of this caliber with cores made of depleted uranium or tungsten can reach 200 - 210 mm at a distance of 1500 m.
This will allow the use of "Derivation-Air Defense" as an IFV or a combat vehicle for tank support, but the vehicle must be retrofitted with a stock dynamic protection kit "Relic" based on 4S24 elements, or "Cactus".
"Derivation-Air Defense" is the only anti-aircraft system in the world that hits aerial targets with 57-mm guns and is equipped with artillery fire control equipment. The complex was created on the chassis of the BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicle.
The 2S38 gun is primarily designed to combat drones, air attack weapons and cruise missiles in the near zone. The system is also capable of operating against ground targets.
Industrial Director of the conventional weapons cluster of the Rostec State Corporation, Bekhan Ozdoev, noted that the company is doing everything possible to speed up the delivery of "Derivation-Air Defense" to the front.
Earlier www1.ru reported that the characteristics of the latest Russian missile "Whirlwind-1" have become known. The ammunition is guided to the target by a laser beam.
