While developing the LADA Aura, AvtoVAZ worked on increasing the rigidity of the car's body. The thing is that the premium sedan is 25 centimeters longer than the LADA Vesta, and the larger the car, the lower the torsional rigidity of the body.
We tried to squeeze the maximum out of the structural elements. The floor is fundamentally different. And in fact, we have now brought the Aura in terms of torsional rigidity to the level of the Vesta station wagon.
According to him, the car weighs the same as the station wagon — 1.3 tons.
Shalaev also explained why only the lower part of the body was lengthened. Constructive changes to the front part would have required changes to the power structure of the body. Such work is as complex as creating a car from scratch, which is too global.
