Artificial intelligence (AI) will be used to assign drivers to bus and electric bus routes in Moscow, according to the press service of SUE Mosgortrans.
The new Russian software, based on AI, aims to optimize transport operations, which will reduce the time buses spend in depots waiting to start their routes.
According to Maxim Liksutov, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport, the introduction of the driver assignment system will allow for a more rational distribution of workload among drivers. This, in turn, will improve passenger safety, as the well-being of drivers directly affects the level of safety during trips.
Currently, SUE Mosgortrans is testing and gradually transferring its bus and electric bus depots to the new system. AI algorithms will help to more effectively assign drivers to routes, taking into account the necessary time for work and rest, which will significantly improve the organization and planning of routes. It is expected that all Mosgortrans sites will be fully converted to auto-assignment by the summer of 2025.
