The Central Research Institute (TsNII) of the Russian Ministry of Defense has patented an autonomous helicopter-type kamikaze drone. It is designed to strike enemy strongholds and manpower with VOG-17 ammunition, and is also immune to electronic warfare (EW) equipment.
The drone is designed in a cylindrical shape and built according to a coaxial scheme with two main rotors with swashplates. In helicopter construction, this improves the maneuverability of the machine and eliminates the need for a tail rotor. A munition is inserted into the cylindrical body of the UAV from below, for which a retention device is provided inside.
The aircraft's control system contains laser scanning equipment and a microprocessor, as well as a USB drive with target data and terrain structure.
Autonomous flight is ensured without operator intervention by independently orienting the UAV in space using a topological map and the impossibility of being affected by enemy satellite navigation and radio control jamming equipment.
When the drone reaches the specified coordinates, the sensors scan the area. When a target is detected, the microprocessor commands the drone to rapidly fall on the target together with the munition.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that the Russian Aerospace Forces received a batch of new Su-34s. The fighters underwent a full range of ground and flight tests before being transferred to the troops.
