The Russian defense industry is facing an acute shortage of labor, with many companies struggling to find qualified personnel. From August 15 to September 15, nearly 90,000 vacancies appeared in the defense sector, according to Bulgarian Military.
The most acute shortage is observed among engineers, lathe operators, and CNC machine programmers — qualified specialists needed for the production of military equipment and weapons.
To attract new personnel, companies in the defense sector are offering salaries 3-4 times higher than the regional average. Some enterprises are willing to train employees.
Many companies have introduced a rotational work method. In the first half of 2024, the average salary of rotational workers reached 152,000 rubles, which is 30% more than in 2023. From January to July, the number of open vacancies for rotational workers increased by 460,500, representing a growth of 32%.
As suggested by Bulgarian Military, the shortage of qualified labor may affect the fulfillment of the state defense order.
