Scientists have recorded a powerful energy release on the Sun, which occurred on the night of October 2, 2024. In terms of its strength, it belongs to class X.
The X7.1 level flare occurred almost exactly in the center of the solar disk in the area of maximum impact on Earth. Since the beginning of the current solar cycle, that is, in the last 7 years, a more powerful explosion has been recorded only once, in May of this year.
Experts expected an increase in solar activity over the past two days, but the fact that the Sun was able to accumulate energy for such a powerful explosion came as a complete surprise to them. The star has been calm for the past two weeks. Since September 14, not a single flare of maximum intensity has been recorded.
Preliminary data indicate that solar plasma may be directed towards Earth as a result of the solar flare. The ejection will hit the planet on the night from Friday to Saturday. However, at the moment, too little time has passed since the flare to make an accurate forecast.
As a reminder, Russians were previously warned that in October, interference would appear on television screens due to solar interference. This is a natural phenomenon that can cause problems with television signal reception.
