Money debited but promised to be returned: Yandex users had funds withdrawn without authorization

Cybersecurity experts attribute the failure to a hacker attack, but Yandex insists it was a technical error

On September 28, Yandex services experienced a technical failure that led to unauthorized withdrawals from users' accounts. According to one of the service's clients, as reported by Kommersant, when paying through Yandex Split and Yandex Pay, he was charged over 800,000 rubles for a single transaction due to repeated transactions.

Yandex Pay support reported that the erroneous debits were caused by a technical failure. The company's specialists are manually canceling incorrect withdrawals, so the process may take several days. Users of Yandex Taxi also faced the problem of erroneous charges for rides.

Yandex assured that they have already resolved the technical issues that led to additional withdrawals from users of the services. Service employees expressed regret for the inconvenience caused and assured that they would take all necessary measures in the future to prevent such incidents.

However, a source in the field of cybersecurity told Kommersant that the cause of the failure was technical work on software updates that was carried out on the weekend. At the same time, a cyberattack was carried out on the company's systems, which led to disruption of services.

Earlier www1.ru reported that Yandex Lavka launched express delivery of medicines. Service clients can purchase products from the assortment of pharmacies of the 36.6 and Gorzdrav networks. In total, about 3000 items are available. The assortment includes only over-the-counter drugs.
