Currently, the excavation of the foundation pit for the NPP is underway, with nearly 1,000 specialists involved in the work. According to Szijjártó, the Hungarian authorities are seeking to extend the service life of the four existing reactors and are hoping for assistance from the IAEA.

The Paks NPP, located on the banks of the Danube, was built by Soviet engineers in the eighties. The nuclear power plant operates on Russian nuclear fuel.

Russia is ready to finance the construction of the Paks II NPP. The project is estimated at 12.5 billion euros.
