Russian patrol and small missile ships have begun to be equipped with the Tor-M2KM anti-aircraft missile system. This is the latest modification of the SAM system, made according to the modular principle, it can be installed on any platform.
"Thor" is considered one of the most effective short-range systems and has proven itself well on the line of combat contact. Experts believe that the installation of "Thor" will significantly increase the protection of ships from air strikes.
In particular, the "Tor-M2KM" has already been installed on the patrol ship "Vasily Bykov" of Project 22160 and the small missile ship "Sovetsk" of Project 22800 "Karakurt". In the future, other combat units of these and other types of ships will be equipped with the SAM system.
The "Thor" machine itself is very effective, modern, high-speed, capable of operating in automatic mode, and it was necessary to start installing it on ships a long time ago.
The range of the Thor missiles exceeds 16 km, they can shoot down targets at altitudes from 10 m to 12 km, and detect them at a distance of up to 32 km.
Earlier www1.ru told about the advantages of the anti-aircraft missile and gun system "Pantsir-S1". The systemcreates a security dome with a radius of tens of kilometers over the protected object.
