The Russian Pantsir-S1 anti-aircraft missile and gun system reliably protects the airspace from attack drones and artillery shells. The advantages of the complex were revealed in Rostec.
The state corporation noted that the Pantsir is designed to protect against various types of air attack weapons. One combat vehicle of the complex is equipped with means of detection, tracking and guidance, as well as target destruction.
Above the protected object, the Pantsir creates a security dome with a radius of tens of kilometers. This zone can be expanded using several combat vehicles. Thus, the entire air defense system of a small country can be built on the basis of this complex.
One of the significant advantages of the Pantsir is the ability to effectively detect and destroy small commercial drones that are actively used by the enemy. This is a difficult target to detect due to its tiny size, low speed and low altitude. The complexes also successfully hit artillery ammunition, such as American MLRS missiles and guided projectiles such as Excalibur.
Earlier, the former Deputy Commander-in-Chief for Air Force Issues of the CIS Joint Air Defense System, Lieutenant General of the Reserve Aytech Bizhev, expressed the need for rethinking Russian air defense. According to him, the system needs to switch to automated control.
