The Russian military's response to the American Abrams tank may be the promising programmable high-explosive fragmentation projectile ZVOF128 «Telnik» of 125 mm caliber. This was pointed out by military expert Evgeny Damantsev.
The projectile is programmed to hit the target based on data from a laser rangefinder with correction via a ballistic computer.
«Telnik» is a projectile with ready-made submunitions that can be triggered at the desired point when approaching the target, and the weapon operator can choose the direction of dispersal forward, into a circular field, or into a cone.
Such projectiles allow effectively hitting infantry in trenches or in fields, which is difficult to reach with a direct hit from a classic tank shell. «Telnik» contains 450 tungsten rods and can form a fragmentation field of 2.5 thousand fragments with a certain directionality.
The projectile is also equipped with a multi-mode fuse that allows you to accurately adjust the projectile to the type of target.
