Looking ahead to 2026, we are thinking about localizing the engine and gearbox, which is the most expensive, complex, and key element in the import substitution strategy.
Maxim Zlatokrylets, Commercial Director of the Moskvich Automobile Plant

According to him, the production of power units is profitable at a volume of 200 thousand units per year, so the possibility of building a plant that will produce engines not only for the Moskvich model range, but also for other Russian automakers is being considered.

How China did it: they localized the Mitsubishi engine, and now only three engines are installed on all models in China. Why not follow this path? But this is a difficult job and a large investment.
Maxim Zlatokrylets, Commercial Director of the Moskvich Automobile Plant

Earlier it became known that the Moskvich automobile plant plans to produce cars from Russian steel. For this, it is planned to organize stamping production.
