Varvara Andreeva, a student at the Polytechnic College of Novgorod State University, has developed a device for passive contactless combat against unmanned aerial vehicles. The device creates a spatially volumetric curtain of laser radiation and interferes with the operation of drones, the press service of NovSU reported.
The advantage of this device is its autonomy. In standby mode, it continuously scans its area of space and waits for drones to enter the control zone in order to blind them.
The device is a scanning unit for line-frame laser processing, which creates a continuous curtain of laser radiation at a distance of 100 meters and an area of 20 square meters.
The device has low power consumption and can be used not only against drones, but also against enemy manpower with the same blinding effect. It is especially effective against optical sights. It can be used by soldiers and officers individually or on any mobile or flying platform to create a zone of continuous laser radiation.
Earlier, Forbes highly rated the Russian tethered drone "Vandal Novgorodsky". The UAV operates via a fiber optic line, so any electronic warfare equipment is powerless against it.
